Eco-sustainable projects

The use of cold-formed steel profiles in the construction of small-medium sized residential buildings has now been consolidated in the North American and Australian building industries. Even in Europe, although only more recently, the use of this type of construction has been becoming more popular, particularly in Scandinavian countries where the use of cold-formed products is a viable alternative to traditional materials.

The reasons for this success lie in the special features of this construction system:

a) sustainable::

  • because it can be used for installing the supporting skeleton of a material, the steel, recycled and recyclable, can be easily reinserted inside a new production cycle;
  • because there is a significant reduction in production waste due to a highly industrialised production process characterised by a high level of quality control on the structural components in the factory;

b) energy efficient:
the thermal insulation and finishing systems are built into the structure, thus guaranteeing the creation of a highly technological “envelope” that reduces energy consumption inside the building;

c) lightweight and durable:

  • the profiles making up the supporting skeleton are light and easy to handle, therefore, no heavy vehicles are required to move and transport them;
  • profiled steel also has excellent mechanical strength and provides an impregnable barrier against external environmental factors, unlike wood and reinforced cement;

d) fast and easy to assemble:
the lightness of the elements and the prefabrication in the factory ensures ad-hoc shaped pieces, ready to be assembled;

e) flexible:

adatto alla realizzazione di piccoli fabbricati ad uso industriale, commerciale e residenziale, caratterizzati da soluzioni spaziali variamente articolate;

f) economical:

  • compared to traditional construction methods, the system allows a reduction in the costs of production, transport and assembly on site;
  • but above all, prefabrication in the factory means definite costs, with no extra costs coming from additional works to be performed on the building site.

To complete the path taken in eco-sustainability, COGI srl proposes various solutions relating to the materials used for thermal and acoustic insulation:

rock wool:

  • high level of recyclability of the raw materials used
  • no hazardous substances in the composition
  • low emissivity and pollution produced during the product’s lifecycle (pre-production, production, use and disposal)

glass wool:

  • high level of recyclability of the raw materials used
  • no hazardous substances in the composition
  • low emissivity and pollution produced during the product’s lifecycle (post-production, production, use and disposal)

polyester fibre:

  • high level of recyclability of the raw materials used
  • no hazardous substances in the composition
  • low emissivity and pollution produced during the product’s lifecycle (post-production, production, use and disposal)

wood fibre:

  • natural, eco-friendly and recyclable material
  • no hazardous substances in the composition
  • produced from waste and residues coming from sawmills and forests, therefore free of chemical treatments

polystyrene:

  • low environmental impact thanks to the production of CO2, which means that the expanding gas is only air
  • reduction in the production of carbon dioxide thanks to the excellent insulting properties
  • does not generate harmful dust during the machining process
